How does recording work?
CabinCam records in continuous clips (1, 3, or 5 minutes — set in Settings) within a storage budget of 10, 20, or 40 GB. When the budget is full, the oldest unlocked clips are recycled automatically so recording can continue.
What does locking a clip do?
A locked clip is never recycled by storage management. Clips are locked automatically when a hard brake or impact is detected (automatic incident detection is on by default and can be turned off in Settings), or manually with the Lock button while recording and from the clip list. You can unlock or delete locked clips yourself at any time.
Why did recording stop when I left the app?
iOS suspends camera access when an app leaves the foreground, so CabinCam safely finalizes the current clip when you switch apps or lock the phone. When you return, the app tells you recording stopped and waits for you to tap record — it never resumes silently.
Where are my clips? Are they uploaded anywhere?
Clips live only on your iPhone, inside the app's storage. There is no account, cloud, or backend. To get a clip out, use Share or Save to Photos from the clip player — no clip leaves the device until you do. The one thing sent off-device is the coordinate lookup behind the street-name overlay, handled by Apple's geocoding service and detailed in the privacy policy.
Which permissions does CabinCam need?
Camera (required, for recording), and optionally Microphone (only when audio recording is on), Location (for the speed and street overlay, and the on-device route history), and write-only Photos access (only when you save a clip). Each can be changed later in iOS Settings → CabinCam.
The speed overlay shows no data.
The overlay needs location permission and a GPS fix. Check iOS Settings → CabinCam → Location, and note that a fix can take a few seconds after starting a drive — recording itself is never blocked by missing location data.
How do I free up space?
Delete clips from the clip list (swipe left) or lower the storage budget in Settings. The Clips screen shows the total space in use and how many clips are locked.
