How does recording work?
CabinCam records in continuous clips (1, 3, or 5 minutes — set in Settings) within a storage budget of 10, 20, or 40 GB. Older unlocked clips are recycled to make room. Recording can stop if device space is insufficient or only protected clips remain.
What does locking a clip do?
Locking protects a clip from automatic recycling. Use Lock while recording or from the clip list. Normal automatic impact detection is on by default and can be turned off in Settings; it does not guarantee detection of braking or every incident. Incident marking protects neighboring clips, not a fixed before/after time window. You can unlock or delete protected clips yourself. Protection is not a backup.
Why did recording stop when I left the app?
iOS suspends camera access when an app leaves the foreground, so CabinCam stops recording and attempts to finalize the current clip when you switch apps or lock the phone. When you return, the app tells you recording stopped and waits for you to tap record — it never resumes silently.
How does Start recording on power work?
Enable Start recording on power in Settings. Opening CabinCam while connected, enabling the setting while connected, or connecting power creates a start request that waits for the camera screen to be active and ready. It does not launch the app or record in the background. Unplugging does not stop an existing recording. After a manual stop, leaving the camera, or an interruption, remaining plugged in does not silently restart recording; start it yourself when ready.
What is Driver Focus mode?
Driver Focus dims the screen after 20 seconds of inactivity while recording. It keeps the app open; it does not lock the phone or enable background recording. Configure the app before driving and only interact with it when safely parked.
Does CabinCam still have an app lock?
Version 1.1.2 removes the optional in-app lock. You can open the app without Face ID, Touch ID, or an app passcode. A privacy cover conceals the app when inactive, including in the app switcher, and disappears when you return. This is not an access lock or encryption. Locking a clip still protects that footage from automatic recycling.
Can I choose the camera and video quality?
Select the front or rear camera and choose SD, HD, or Full HD in Settings. Clip lengths are 1, 3, or 5 minutes. Higher quality uses more storage, and recording can be limited or stopped by device heat, low battery, or available space. Audio and location recording are off by default.
Where are my clips? Are they uploaded anywhere?
Clips live only on your iPhone, inside the app's storage. There is no account, cloud, or backend. To get a clip out, use Share or Save to Photos from the clip player — CabinCam does not automatically upload recordings. Exported copies may sync according to the destination app or your Photos settings. If you enable location recording, street-name lookup can send coordinates to Apple's geocoding service. Which permissions does CabinCam need?
Camera (required, for recording), and optionally Microphone (only when audio recording is on), Location (only after you enable location recording, for the speed and location overlay), and write-only Photos access (only when you save a clip). Each can be changed later in iOS Settings → CabinCam.
The speed overlay shows no data.
Enable location recording in CabinCam Settings, then allow location access in iOS Settings → CabinCam → Location. Location recording is off by default. A GPS fix can take time; street names may be unavailable offline. Missing location data does not block video recording. Location and speed burned into a clip remain visible when exported.
How do I free up space?
Delete unwanted clips from the clip list or unlock footage you are willing to let automatic cleanup recycle. Lowering the budget affects reclamation when recording needs space; protected clips are retained. Sharing or saving to Photos can require additional free space.
Privacy
The CabinCam iPhone app has no analytics or backend. Read about optional location processing and exports in the privacy policy.
