Privacy Policy
CabinCam is a dashcam app designed with privacy at its core. This policy explains what data the iPhone app and this website access, how it is used, and your choices.
Data that stays on your device
The CabinCam iPhone app stores recordings, thumbnails, and clip metadata in app storage. The app has no account system, analytics, backend, or cloud-sync feature. Clips leave app storage when you choose to share or export them, or save them to Photos. Exported copies are handled by the destination app or service and may be synced under your own settings. Optional street-name lookup can send coordinates to Apple as described below.
Camera and microphone
CabinCam uses the front or rear camera you select for live preview and recording. Audio recording is off by default and requires you to enable it and grant microphone access. Captured video and audio are written locally; CabinCam does not upload them automatically.
Location
Location recording is off by default. After you enable it and grant permission, CabinCam reads foreground location for speed and location overlays. Street-name lookup can send coordinates to Apple's geocoding service, which processes them under Apple's privacy policy. This lookup currently follows the location-recording setting; there is no separate geocoding switch. Video recording works without location or internet, and street names may be unavailable offline. Opted-in speed, street names, or coordinates burned into footage remain visible in exported copies. New iOS recordings do not include a hidden location track. The current version does not collect new route history or provide trip replay. Older recordings, metadata, and route history may remain from earlier versions; turning location off does not erase or redact that existing data. CabinCam does not collect background location.
App access and app-switcher privacy
Version 1.1.2 removes the optional in-app lock. CabinCam does not require Face ID, Touch ID, or an app passcode to open. A native privacy cover conceals app content when it becomes inactive, including in the app switcher; returning to the app restores your screen without authentication. This cover is not encryption or an access lock. Clip locking only protects footage from automatic recycling. On iOS, recording stops when the app leaves the foreground or the phone is locked; resume recording explicitly when you return.
Photo library
CabinCam requests write-only access to your photo library solely when you choose to save a clip. It does not read or browse your existing photos or videos.
Device sensors
When automatic incident detection is enabled, CabinCam processes accelerometer readings locally to identify sudden impacts and protect neighboring clips from recycling. Detection is not guaranteed. CabinCam does not upload these readings or create a driving-profile service.
Analytics in the iPhone app
The CabinCam iPhone app does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking technologies. CabinCam does not automatically send usage reports, device identifiers, or behavioral histories to its developer. Support correspondence and optional geocoding are described separately.
Optional website analytics and cookies
This website offers Google Analytics 4 to help us understand visits and improve the site. Google Analytics is off by default: its script loads only after you choose Accept analytics. After acceptance, Google can process page visits, interactions, referrers, browser and device information, and cookie-based analytics identifiers. Advertising storage, advertising personalization, and Google signals are disabled in our tag configuration. Reject analytics keeps the Google tag blocked. We store your acceptance or rejection in this browser's local storage for up to 180 days; this preference is used only to remember your choice. You can change your choice using Cookie preferences in the footer. Rejecting after acceptance removes this site's Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop the tag; it does not erase data already sent to Google. If browser storage is unavailable, we may ask again on a later visit. Website analytics does not access your iPhone app or recordings. Accounts and personal information
CabinCam does not require or offer user accounts. If you choose to contact support, your email provider sends your message and sender details to the support address. Do not include sensitive footage or location unless you intend to share it.
Storage management
CabinCam manages a configurable on-device storage budget (10, 20, or 40 GB). When the budget is reached, the oldest unlocked clips are automatically recycled. Locked clips are retained until you manually delete them. All storage operations happen locally.
Third-party services
The CabinCam iPhone app does not integrate with third-party analytics or advertising services. The website offers optional Google Analytics as described above. Optional street-name lookup can send coordinates to Apple. User-selected exports go through the system share sheet or Photos. Opening web links or contacting support uses the relevant system app or service. Saving to Photos requests write-only access; CabinCam does not browse your library.
Children's privacy
CabinCam is not directed at children under 13. The same local-storage defaults and optional location-processing disclosures apply to all users.
Backups and exported copies
New iOS recordings are stored in a directory excluded from OS backup; this does not control backups of all settings or copies you export. Photos, recipient apps, and system backup settings may retain their own copies.
Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be published on this page. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
